Seeking an experienced Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel nursing contract in Wausau, Wisconsin. Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,220–$2,340
- Contract: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Healthcare Setting: 8-bed Short Stay/Intermediate Care Unit
- Shift: 12-hour days, 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
- Weekend and Holiday Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
- Electronic Medical Record: EPIC
- Travel Requirement: Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the work location
Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements
- Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
- At least 3 years of recent experience in cardiac stepdown, intermediate care, observation, medical-surgical, or telemetry nursing
- At least 1 previous travel nursing assignment required
- Associate degree or nursing certificate
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS certification preferred
- Recent EPIC charting experience required
- Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation and telemetry monitoring skills; an EKG assessment is required during compliance
- Adaptability, resilience, organization, and a positive approach to frequent changes in patient volume and unit needs
Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive registered nursing care for patients in an observation and intermediate care setting, with an average stay of up to 48 hours
- Care for patients with anemia, cellulitis, COPD, dehydration, and pre- and post-operative urology and gastrointestinal conditions
- Monitor and manage cardiac, Cardizem, nitroglycerin, insulin, and heparin infusions according to clinical standards and provider orders
- Perform focused nursing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition, and escalate concerns promptly
- Support high-volume admissions, discharges, transfers, and transitions of care
- Float to inpatient units, including intermediate care and cardiac telemetry units, as needed
- Collaborate with providers, ancillary departments, and nursing colleagues to promote safe, timely, and patient-centered care
- Complete accurate clinical documentation in EPIC and maintain compliance with unit and professional standards
