Denials & Appeals Coordinator (Healthcare Finance) — Hybrid | Philadelphia, PA (University City)

Denials & Appeals Coordinator in University City, Philadelphia — hybrid temp-to-perm healthcare finance role focused on revenue cycle management, denials management, and payer appeals. Work onsite two days per week and remotely the rest while supporting financial analysis and strategic decision support for a major academic medical environment.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Finance, Accounting, or Information Technology preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in healthcare finance, revenue cycle, or medical billing with responsibilities in accounting and budgeting
  • Proficiency with Hyperion Essbase / Planning / Reports and EPIC systems (EPIC revenue cycle and reporting experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of denials management, payer appeals, claims denial workflows, and revenue integrity best practices
  • Strong analytical, communication, and executive presentation skills; experience mentoring junior analysts
  • Ability to start compliance and onboarding processes immediately upon offer acceptance (medicals and drug screens must be initiated within 72 hours)

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead denials and appeals financial analysis and reporting to reduce denied claims and improve revenue recovery
  • Serve as key liaison between revenue cycle operations and senior finance leadership
  • Own month-end close activities: prepare, review, and analyze journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Develop monthly executive reporting, presentations, and dashboards for divisional leadership
  • Perform variance analysis and provide actionable insights to improve departmental performance and cash flow
  • Support annual operating budget development and partner with managers on departmental budgeting and forecasting
  • Contribute to strategic planning, revenue cycle improvement projects, and denials trending initiatives
  • Present findings in leadership forums, mentor junior staff, and drive cross-functional collaboration across finance, revenue cycle, and operations
