Travel Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in New Haven, CT

Join a 13-week travel nursing contract in New Haven, Connecticut, and use your Emergency Department RN expertise to care for diverse patients in a fast-paced community emergency department. This travel Registered Nurse opportunity offers 36 hours per week on day shifts, collaborative clinical support, and the chance to care for infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.

The emergency department is supported by respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, IV teams, and other clinical resources. New Haven is a vibrant, walkable city known for its historic character, cultural attractions, excellent dining, and welcoming neighborhoods.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
• Assignment Type: 13-week Emergency Department travel contract
• Location: New Haven, Connecticut
• Start Date: October 23, 2026
• End Date: January 22, 2027
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6 on days, nights, and weekends
• Patient Population: Infants, adolescents, adults, pediatric patients, and geriatric patients
• Department Volume: Approximately 80 patients per day and 180 visits per day
• Documentation: Epic experience preferred
• Assignment Notes: Cross-training and floating between campuses may be required within the Registered Nurse’s scope of practice. Local candidates residing within 75 miles are not eligible.

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license in Connecticut, or eligibility to obtain one
• At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience preferred; candidates with 1.5 years may be considered with comparable hospital, Level I trauma, or travel nursing experience
• Community hospital experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required; TNS may be accepted in place of TNCC
• NIHSS, PALS, CPI, and ENPC certifications preferred as applicable to the assignment
• Experience caring for approximately 5–6 patients in a busy emergency department
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and emergency response skills
• Ability to float between campuses and adapt to changing emergency department needs
• Ability to complete required pre-start and annual learning modules
• Current influenza vaccination is required

Travel Emergency Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients across the lifespan
• Rapidly assess, triage, monitor, and reassess patients presenting with urgent and emergent conditions
• Recognize and respond to stroke, cardiac events, respiratory distress, sepsis, trauma, overdose, behavioral health crises, and multisystem complications
• Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV therapies, sedation, and other treatments according to orders and protocols
• Perform and interpret nursing assessments, 12-lead EKGs, dysrhythmia monitoring, and relevant diagnostic findings
• Manage central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, IV vasopressors, and continuous sedation as indicated
• Initiate and maintain IV access, collect specimens, administer medications, and provide ongoing patient education
• Support care for psychiatric holds, suicidal patients, patients with acute psychosis, and individuals requiring behavioral safety interventions
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and other members of the emergency care team
• Accurately document patient care and clinical responses in Epic
• Float between assigned campuses as needed while maintaining quality, safety, and continuity of care
