Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1910 - $2010 (Travel Nurse)
- Location: Petersburg, VA 23805 (Travel assignment; Virginia travel nursing)
- Employment Type: Travel Contract – Emergency Department RN (ER RN)
- Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 5/11/2026, End: 8/8/2026)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00pm – 7:30am); every other weekend and one major holiday required
- Unit Size / ED Census: 32 beds, 5 recliner chairs (can flex up to 10 hallway beds) — typical large ED/trauma center volume
Qualifications / Job Requirements
- Current RN license in Virginia or compact state (Emergency Room RN / Registered Nurse)
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Room (ED) RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
- CPI De-escalation Training required
- Copy of nursing diploma required
- EPIC EHR proficiency within the last year strongly preferred (ED clinical documentation / charting)
- Experience in large ED/trauma centers strongly preferred (trauma, critical care, pediatric emergency)
- Must pass EKG Exam at orientation (study guide available)
- No local candidates — must reside outside a 50-mile radius
Responsibilities — Emergency Department RN (ER RN)
- Provide, coordinate, plan, and evaluate nursing care for diverse patients in a fast-paced, high-intensity emergency department (emergency nursing, acute care)
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, triage, create and implement ED care plans, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
- Administer medications safely and in accordance with state and facility policies; IV therapy and medication titration experience preferred
- Serve as point of contact for patient care coordination across hospital departments, transfer centers, EMS, and law enforcement
- Act as a patient safety advocate and participate in continuous quality improvement and ED performance initiatives
- Manage physical and emotional demands of emergency nursing care, including trauma, pediatric, geriatric, and behavioral health cases
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, respiratory therapy, social work) to optimize patient outcomes
- Utilize advanced ED equipment: Alaris pumps, Panda warmers, Hamilton ventilators, Autopulse, GlideScope, ultrasound, EKG machine, and more
- Maintain professionalism, compassion, clinical judgment, and resilience in challenging emergency situations
