Inpatient Pharmacist Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,940–$3,160
• Location: West Plains, Missouri
• Healthcare Setting: Inpatient hospital pharmacy
• Job Type: 13-week travel pharmacist contract
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• Schedule: Four 10-hour night shifts per week, generally 7:30 p.m.–5:30 a.m.; schedule options discussed during the interview
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend coverage; weekend shifts may be 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.
• Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week
• Work Environment: On-site; pharmacist works independently overnight without pharmacy technician coverage
• Patient Population: Neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
• Pharmacy Technology: Meditech experience preferred; Pyxis and PharmacyOneSource systems utilized

Hospital Pharmacist Job Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of inpatient pharmacy or acute care pharmacy experience
• Active Missouri pharmacist license; candidates with a pending license may be considered if the licensing process is underway or initiated upon offer
• PharmD or RPh credential
• BLS certification preferred
• Current knowledge of clinical dosing, anticoagulation therapy, warfarin dosing, renal dosing, pediatric and geriatric dosing, pharmacokinetic dosing, and therapeutic medication monitoring
• Experience with sterile technique, IV piggyback preparation, antibiotic compounding, and intravenous medication preparation
• Ability to use medication dispensing systems, including Pyxis and unit-dose medication storage systems
• Working knowledge of pharmacotherapy for cardiovascular, endocrine, infectious disease, pulmonary, and renal conditions
• Strong independent decision-making, communication, clinical judgment, and medication safety skills

Inpatient Pharmacist Responsibilities

• Verify medication orders accurately and efficiently for a diverse inpatient population
• Review and respond to clinical alerts in the PharmacyOneSource queue, including pharmacokinetic and renal dosing alerts
• Provide clinical dosing support for anticoagulation, high-alert medications, cardiac therapies, pediatric patients, geriatric patients, and patients with renal impairment
• Perform therapeutic medication monitoring and support safe, evidence-based pharmacotherapy
• Prepare intravenous medications, including antibiotics and IV piggyback solutions, using proper sterile technique
• Manage medication dispensing, unit-dose systems, medication storage, and Pyxis workflows
• Support medication management for cardiovascular, endocrine, infectious disease, pulmonary, and renal conditions
• Assist with drug shortage management and promote appropriate medication utilization
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams to promote safe and effective patient outcomes
• Work as the primary overnight inpatient pharmacist while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, professionalism, and patient-centered care
