Physical Therapist Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,580–$1,700
  • Setting: Primarily hospital-based outpatient physical therapy, with occasional inpatient medical-surgical and rehabilitation coverage
  • Location: Artesia, New Mexico
  • Start Date: December 7 or December 14, 2026
  • Assignment End Date: March 8, 2027
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Shift Duration: 8-hour shifts
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with a 12:00–1:00 p.m. lunch closure
  • Weekend Requirement: Weekend rotation approximately once every five weeks to cover inpatient units
  • Holiday Requirement: Participation in the holiday rotation may be required
  • Orientation: One to two shifts with a preceptor, plus required department modules before beginning patient care
  • Charting System: TruBridge – Evident
  • Travel Experience: First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Physical Therapist Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of physical therapy experience, with outpatient experience preferred; inpatient-only experience may be considered
  • Active New Mexico Physical Therapist license
  • Current BLS certification
  • Ability to complete required department modules before working independently
  • New Mexico caregiver background fingerprinting completed in New Mexico, with results available before the start date
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, documentation, and patient education skills
  • Professional attire consisting of business casual clothing or solid-colored scrubs

Physical Therapy Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients and implement individualized physical therapy treatment plans
  • Provide care for approximately 8–10 patients per day across outpatient and, as needed, inpatient settings
  • Treat a diverse patient population ranging from children age 5 and older through geriatric adults
  • Support patients with total joint recovery, back, shoulder, and foot pain, as well as select neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease
  • Guide patients through therapeutic exercises, functional activities, mobility training, and equipment use
  • Monitor patient response and progress, update treatment approaches as appropriate, and communicate findings to the therapy team
  • Document evaluations, treatments, patient progress, and discharge recommendations accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Provide patient and caregiver education to encourage safe mobility and continued progress outside of therapy sessions
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff while maintaining a patient-centered approach to care
