Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements
- Associate degree
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- Active Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license
- Current Basic Life Support certification
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation certification
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary care teams
Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities
- Provide respiratory care in accordance with physician orders and established clinical standards.
- Assess patients, plan and implement respiratory therapy interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of care.
- Monitor patient outcomes and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to adjust care plans as needed.
- Educate patients and responsible caregivers about respiratory disease processes, treatment procedures, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain clear communication with medical and nursing staff regarding patient status and respiratory care needs.
- Share clinical knowledge with staff and students while serving as a role model for professional respiratory therapy practice.
- Accept reassignment to other units when necessary to support patient care needs.
