• Location: Herrin, Illinois (62948) — Southern Illinois travel job
• Assignment Type: Travel Surgical Tech (Surgical Technologist / OR Tech)
• Duration: 13 weeks (March 13, 2026 – June 12, 2026)
• Shift: 4 days/week, 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM (10-hour shifts) with rotating day off
• Call Requirements: 1 weeknight and 2 weekend days per month
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Job Requirements / Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an OR technician program accredited through ARC/STSA, or equivalent on-the-job training, military surgical tech experience, dental assistant, ophthalmic technician, or medical assistant (documentation of training required)
• Certified candidates: Passed Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam through NBSTSA or NCCT preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• At least 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred; minimum 6 months technical experience for non-certified or on-the-job/military training
• Prior operating room (OR) / perioperative experience and familiarity with sterile technique strongly preferred

Primary Responsibilities (Surgical Tech / OR Tech)

• Prepare patient and operating room for scheduled surgical procedures in an acute care hospital
• Assist with patient transportation and safe positioning on the operating table
• Assemble, disassemble, and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile field
• Open sterile supplies and set up for procedures following aseptic technique
• Perform skin preparation, draping, and assist surgeon with gowning and gloving
• Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to the surgeon using proper technique
• Maintain accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and sutures; document discrepancies per policy
• Collect and label surgical specimens and handle according to protocol
• Decontaminate instruments and equipment and support sterile processing procedures
• Support efficient OR turnover, restock supplies, and monitor inventory levels
