ICU RN Job Requirements (Qualifications)

  • Active RN license in Illinois (IL RN license required to submit)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU or critical care experience
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Experience leading Code Blue situations and running codes
  • Medication titration experience (e.g., Levophed, Neo-Synephrine, Propofol, Fentanyl, Precedex, insulin drips, TNK)
  • Phlebotomy skills; prior travel nurse experience highly preferred
  • Familiarity with Meditech charting system is a plus

ICU Responsibilities (Clinical & Travel Nurse Duties)

  • Provide primary, high-quality critical care nursing for ICU patients (8-bed unit; typical nurse:patient ratio 1:2–3)
  • Respond to and lead Code Blue events; coordinate with rapid response and interdisciplinary teams
  • Titrate, prepare, and mix critical care medications and drips as ordered
  • Collaborate with hospitalists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and unit support staff
  • Float to MedSurg, Telemetry, or ER units as needed and manage a full patient load when required
  • Accurately document patient care and interventions using Meditech or the facility EHR
  • Participate in department orientation and ongoing professional development while on contract
