Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical Ortho/Neuro/Trauma | Night Shift | Evansville, IN

Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,930–$2,030
  • Location: Evansville, Indiana
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks; November 2, 2026–January 31, 2027
  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Three weekends within each six-week schedule
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Orientation: 12 hours, with biweekly orientation scheduling
  • Unit Profile: 44-bed medical-surgical unit specializing in orthopedic, neurologic, and trauma care
  • Floating: May include floating within the nurse’s skill set to nearby campuses; cross-campus notice is generally provided in advance
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs without competing health system or agency logos

Travel Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license, including a current compact license when applicable
  • At least 2 years of Registered Nurse experience, including 1 full year in orthopedic, neurologic, or trauma care
  • Previous travel nursing assignment required
  • Level II trauma experience required
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification
  • Current NIHSS certification
  • Recent Epic electronic health record experience
  • Telemetry and 12-lead ECG interpretation skills
  • Stepdown experience and successful completion of a telemetry assessment required
  • Strong neurologic assessment, clinical judgment, communication, resilience, and adaptability skills

Medical-Surgical Travel RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care for patients with orthopedic injuries, neurologic conditions, spine and rib fractures, and trauma-related diagnoses.
  • Perform thorough neurologic assessments and recognize changes in patient condition promptly.
  • Interpret telemetry and 12-lead ECG findings and escalate clinically significant changes.
  • Assist with log rolling, back braces, immobilizers, Buck’s traction, pin-site care, and other mobility or orthopedic devices.
  • Manage peripheral IVs, chest tubes, indwelling drains, PEG and NG tubes, wound care, wound vacs, and other specialized treatments as indicated.
  • Safely administer and monitor therapies such as heparin, furosemide, and pantoprazole infusions, as well as epidural and On-Q management when applicable.
  • Support patients requiring CIWA or behavioral health interventions while maintaining a calm, respectful care environment.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Float to other units or nearby campuses within the nurse’s competency when operational needs require.
  • Complete accurate documentation in Epic and contribute to a positive learning environment, including precepting students or new team members when assigned.
