Travel Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN) – Post-Surgical Care Unit | Wausau, WI
Seeking an experienced Travel Medical-Surgical RN for a 13-week nursing assignment in Wausau, Wisconsin. Travel Nursing Job Details
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- End Date: January 30, 2027
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,110–$2,220
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour shifts, primarily nights; day/night variables may include 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
- Weekend and Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and holiday
- Unit: 40-bed post-surgical care unit serving adult and geriatric patients
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:4–5 on day/evening shifts and 1:5–7 on night shifts
- Documentation: Epic electronic medical record (EMR)
Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- At least 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience in a hospital setting
- Trauma Level II experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Epic charting and electronic medical record experience
- Associate degree or nursing certificate required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Ability to provide high-quality nursing care for adult and geriatric patients in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
- Strong prioritization, multitasking, communication, and teamwork skills
Medical-Surgical Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients before and after surgical procedures
- Assess patient conditions, identify changes in acuity, and implement appropriate nursing interventions
- Administer medications safely using medication-scanning technology and infusion pumps
- Coordinate care for patients with varying post-operative needs and short expected lengths of stay
- Manage multiple admissions and prioritize care in a unit averaging 10–15 admissions per day
- Document assessments, interventions, outcomes, and care plans accurately in Epic
- Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support safe patient outcomes
- Float to other inpatient units as needed and contribute to a flexible, team-oriented work environment
