Travel Nursing Job Details

• Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
• Assignment: 13-week Medical-Surgical travel nursing contract
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• End Date: January 18, 2027
• Healthcare Setting: Acute-care Medical-Surgical and centralized float units
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Hours: 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Three weekend shifts within a four-week period
• Charting System: Epic
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5–6

Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

• At least 1.5 years of recent Registered Nurse experience in a Level I, Level II, or tertiary-care setting
• At least 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience in a hospital with 450 or more beds
• Current Registered Nurse license in Indiana or a compact-state RN license
• Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, clinical judgment, and communication skills
• Ability to float to other Medical-Surgical units and work effectively in a changing acute-care environment
• Comfort with electronic health record documentation and common hospital equipment

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with diverse medical and surgical diagnoses, including COPD, diabetes, CHF, renal disease, infections, gastrointestinal conditions, stroke, dementia, and behavioral health concerns.
• Complete head-to-toe assessments, develop and update individualized care plans, and evaluate patient progress.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapies, including heparin and insulin infusions, according to established protocols.
• Care for patients with feeding tubes, chest tubes, wound vacs, telemetry monitoring, and other acute-care needs.
• Monitor patients before and after procedures such as colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, minor surgeries, and biopsies.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to providers and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Document assessments, interventions, medication administration, and patient responses accurately in Epic.
• Use equipment such as IV pumps, feeding pumps, Pyxis systems, glucose-monitoring devices, sequential compression devices, and heating or cooling modalities.
• Float to other Medical-Surgical units based on patient-care needs while maintaining safe, high-quality nursing practice.
• Participate in required onboarding and unit-based training, including Epic education.
