Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Nursing Job – 12-Hour Nights in Fort Wayne, Indiana
Join a collaborative acute-care nursing team as a Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) on a 13-week travel contract in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Travel RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
- Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
- Healthcare Setting: Acute-care medical-surgical units
- Start Date: October 19, 2026
- Assignment End Date: January 18, 2027
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Schedule: 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Three weekend shifts within a four-week period
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5–6
- Charting System: Epic
- Dress Code: Caribbean blue scrubs
- Orientation: Hospital orientation, nursing orientation, and Epic training
Med/Surg RN Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or a compact RN license
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
- At least 1.5 years of Level I, Level II, or tertiary-care nursing experience
- At least 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience in a large hospital environment, preferably 450 beds or more
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to float to other medical units and adapt to changing patient-care needs
- Comfort caring for patients with complex medical and surgical diagnoses
Medical-Surgical Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care for patients with conditions including COPD, diabetes, CHF, renal disease, infections, neurological disorders, gastrointestinal conditions, and behavioral health needs
- Complete focused and comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and evaluate patient progress
- Administer medications and manage IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, IV pumps, feeding pumps, and feeding tubes
- Provide care for wound vacs, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring, SCDs, and other acute-care equipment
- Prepare patients for and provide post-procedure care following colonoscopies, bronchoscopies, thoracenteses, paracenteses, minor surgeries, biopsies, and other interventions
- Recognize changes in patient condition and collaborate promptly with providers and the interdisciplinary care team
- Document accurately in Epic and communicate effectively during handoffs and care transitions
- Float to other medical units as needed while maintaining safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care
