  • Assignment Duration: 13 weeks

  • Shift: Nights, 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Unit: Urology/Nephrology (MMC6120-5B) – 25-bed unit; avg census 23
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Guaranteed Hours: Up to 36 hours may be called off per 13-week contract

Required Qualifications (Med/Surg RN / Travel RN)

  • Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience (including MS/Tele)
  • Previous charge nurse experience required
  • Active Illinois RN license (in-hand or in application)
  • BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • Telemetry and cardiac monitoring experience; participation in rapid response/code teams
  • Genitourinary/renal clinical skills: pre/post hemodialysis care, renal failure management, kidney transplant care
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC/central line care, IV starts
  • Medication competency including Heparin administration
  • Respiratory care skills: chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, portable oxygen
  • Wound care expertise including wound vac management and isolation precautions
  • Ability to float to other Med/Surg units as needed
  • Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult patients with urology and nephrology diagnoses (renal failure, kidney transplant, complex bladder surgeries)
  • Manage pre- and post-operative care for kidney transplant and urologic surgical patients
  • Administer IV therapies, blood products, and medications per policy (including Heparin)
  • Monitor telemetry and cardiac status remotely; respond on rapid response/code teams as needed
  • Perform wound care, manage wound vacs, and implement isolation precautions
  • Operate and manage respiratory devices and interventions (chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, oxygen delivery)
  • Float to other Med/Surg units and assume charge nurse responsibilities when required
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV therapy, PT, RT, pharmacy, and social services
  • Document patient care accurately and efficiently in Cerner EMR
