Operating Room RN Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license and eligibility to practice in Virginia
- At least 1 year of recent operating room or perioperative nursing experience
- Experience supporting general surgery procedures
- Current nursing credentials required for practice in an operating room environment
- Ability to work rotating shifts and participate in required call, weekend, and holiday coverage
- Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and commitment to patient safety
Operating Room Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, specialized nursing care throughout the surgical experience, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative support
- Prepare operating rooms, equipment, supplies, and patients for general surgery procedures
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, and the broader perioperative team
- Maintain sterile technique and follow established infection-prevention and patient-safety standards
- Monitor patient status, anticipate clinical needs, and respond promptly to changes during procedures
- Complete accurate documentation and support efficient operating room turnover
- Participate in scheduled call, weekend, and holiday coverage as assigned
