Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) – San Francisco Travel Nursing Contract

  • Shift Duration: 10-hour evening shifts, scheduled approximately 10:45 a.m. to 9:15 p.m.

  • Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
  • Operating Room Environment: 28-room surgical department with laparoscopic, robotic, open abdominal, cystoscopy, thoracic, vascular, and neurosurgical cases
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Floating: Flexibility to float to other departments, units, or affiliated locations when business needs require and qualifications are met

Operating Room RN Job Requirements

  • Active California Registered Nurse license in hand
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • At least 3 years of professional RN experience, including operating room and perioperative nursing experience
  • Previous travel nursing experience
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Demonstrated competency in both surgical scrubbing and circulating
  • At least 2 years of experience scrubbing and circulating neurosurgery cases, including neurovascular, open and intraoperative angiography, functional, peripheral nerve, and neuro-oncology procedures
  • Previous charge nurse experience
  • Experience working in a teaching hospital
  • Epic charting experience
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • CNOR certification preferred

Travel OR RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, efficient, and compassionate perioperative nursing care for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Scrub and circulate for a broad range of surgical procedures, with a strong focus on complex neurosurgical and neurovascular cases.
  • Support laparoscopic, robotic, open abdominal, thoracic, vascular, cardiovascular, urologic, gynecologic, orthopedic, ENT, plastics, transplant, and general surgery procedures as assigned.
  • Prepare operating rooms, equipment, instruments, supplies, and medications according to procedure requirements.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention, universal protocol, specimen handling, fire safety, laser safety, radiation safety, and malignant hyperthermia precautions.
  • Operate and assist with advanced surgical technology, including robotic systems, cell saver equipment, electrosurgical units, and specialized neurosurgical equipment.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Document patient care and perioperative activities accurately in Epic.
  • Demonstrate leadership through charge responsibilities, effective communication, and support of department workflow.
  • Adapt to changing surgical schedules and float assignments while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care.
